Free Stuff – Tim Fite and Iconoclasts

I feel the blog has been somewhat neglected of late (damn university and exams coming up) so I thought it was only right to give you some more free music.

Tim Fite – Change Of Heart

For those of you who listened to the last podcast, you will be well aware of this artist. I’ve really enjoyed this album over the last month or so as it combines some nice acoustic/clean electric guitars and pianos with some wonderful vocals to give a great folksy album. But every now and again, he throws in a little bit of electronica which never feels out of place. I think it’s a wonderful little album but is a far cry from his 2006, hip hop album “Over The Counter Culture”.

Iconoclasts – Iconoclasts EP

This is the first release from the Portuguese six piece. A pretty solid debut effort, they have a sound that encompasses the indie pop sound and vocals of Los Campesinos with a smattering of Dananananaykroyd’s “fight pop” sound. The tracks for the EP are all available for free download of last.fm but if you follow this link you can download them all in one go with the artwork and everything.

Free Stuff – Post Rock You Say?

Free stuff’s always good right? Well the following two bands (although I say bands, they’re both actually produced by two guys on their own) have their current albums and EPs available on the web FOR FREE and they’re both worth your time.

His album ‘The Earth That Breathed’ is a really dark and distorted version of post-rock with some fantastic guitar riffs thrown into the mix, producing a sound that I love. The 15 track album was made all using his own laptop and considering that, it’s an amazing accomplishment. He’s also looking to get a band together to tour the album with. Check out his myspace for more details.

‘Theory Of Tides’ is the second EP by An Astrologists Guide and is easily the better of the two (both are available from his myspace) and you can hear the best track below. Again, this was all done by one guy but what makes this even more depressing to us mere mortals is that this only acts as his side project to his main body of work where he goes by the name Bark Cat Bark and produces some magical classical piano music with a hint of French folk in the mix.

Well, now I seem to have the basics sorted, I think it’s time for wee update.

As I said previously, the main idea of this blog will be to put up tracks to introduce you to new bands or remind you of old favourites. As well as this, I’ll also use the site to link to some my podcasts that I’ve been making over the last year or so now. I may put up some of my back catalogue at some point but for now you’ll have to make do with a couple of tracks that I’ve put on recent ones.

First off is Wild Light with the annoyingly catchy ‘California On My Mind’ off their new(ish?) album Adult Nights. If your head isn’t bobbing along by the end of the song then I’ll be disappointed..

Second up is the frankly superb ‘Dance The Way I Feel’ by the curiously named (and curiously dressed) Ou Est Le Swimming Pool (see below) who are a threesome from good old Camden Town and, as seems to be the way over the next couple of weeks while I’m back home, are doing a couple of smallish gigs around London this month. And as I’m such a lovely person, I’ll even give you a link to a free download of the track.. here it is!
